'Ensemble' is a group exhibition about audio description as an art form in its own right and as a collaborative communication tool. The participating artists took part in an audio description training day/s and a group crit for feedback. Each artwork consists of two parts - two audio descriptions played back-to-back, one created by the artist and one by the Collective Agency. The original, physical artworks chosen to be audio described, had not been exhibited before and the artist had to sign a Letter of Agreement to confirm that this was true and that they would not be shown in the future. 20 years previously I had made two proposals for ‘arttextiles3’ 2004: a Bury St Edmunds Gallery touring show, 'Perception' and 'Construction': the former was selected. The unrealised proposal: 'Construction' was created for the private viewing of the Collective Agency only, in order for them to produce their artwork description for 'Ensemble'. I was interested in how 20 years later I intuitively altered the original proposed staging of the work so that it could be erased.
'Ensemble' curated by Hettie James and Stephanie Farmer, supported by the Arts Council of England and The De Laszlo Foundation.
